UNCUT project
Special “Action Aid” Award
Emanuela Zuccalà and Simona Ghizzoni
It is a webdoc, a realization that collects reports, surveys, and images. In concrete terms, it is the will to collect all that it constitutes, in this case a female social problem, which in Africa is particularly evident and difficult to remove.
Actionaid has thus worked hard in those countries where female genital mutilation is a ferociously common practice.
Emanuela Zuccalà and Simona Ghizzoni have traveled where Actionaid has tried and tries not only to provide assistance but also to form a conscience in women to try to modify a practice that concerns 125 million women.
Writings and images are the most direct way to sensitize governments. Only in the European Union is the problem present and does it affect the lives of 500,000 women.
The activity of Emanuela and Simona, extraordinarily meritorious, not only in the informative aspect, it is under the formative one of the consciences, because nobody can say I didn't know. The problem is, then, so painfully, tragically, actual even in the light of the realities that agitate the African way and our world.
Emanuela, also the author of seven books, is a journalist with the Corriere della Sera, and boasts a series of national journalists and awards, but even more international.
Simona has stopped the pain in the images.
His mournful women range from those photographed in Sarajevo to those who "cut" feel it as a wound in the body and in the soul.
Thanks Emanuela and Simona, for the words, the images and ... the heart.
