“WOMAN FOR SOCIAL AND CIVIL COMMITMENT” Award

Deputy President of the Court of Cassation. Never had a woman made it this high in the Supreme Court. Even in an area, that of the judiciary, in which women now represent the majority.

"That this news is no longer news" is the phrase with which Margherita Cassano welcomed her appointment. A wish addressed to all those women who put their professionalism at the service of civil society by coming face to face with the thousand faces of gender inequality.

In the judiciary since 1980, Margherita Cassano's path is that of a woman who has been able to combine her professional determination with that sense of humility that has never abandoned her, welcoming every new experience as an opportunity to improve herself in the continuous relationship with others.

The district anti-mafia management, the Superior Council of the Judiciary, the presidency of the First Criminal Section and that of the Court of Appeal of Florence: a path, hers, which has placed her in the face of the most serious and frightening facets of violence in contexts always different social networks.

But Margherita Cassano was able to respond promptly to the most complex professional challenges with that balanced awareness and that attitude to listening that made her a model of responsibility, preparation and competence.
