SAMIRA ASGHARI
“HUMAN RIGHTS” Award
Among its many meanings, sport has a pure and essential sense. It involves freedom, equality and respect. It is a value that educates and connects, it does not transcend the basic spirit of the game.
And it is known that game is something serious. As it is for Samira Asghari, sport has been for her the best perspective to look at the world, dreaming of a better world, fairer and more peaceful. A world without discriminations, a world for which it is worth fighting for. Her, a worthy athlete. Her, a young lady. The youngest member of the International Olympic Committee. And the first ever elected from Afghanistan. That same tormented country where today women are back as hidden presence. But for every voice that dims, Samira’s one gets amplified, speaking the language of empowerment and civil commitment. That is because sport does not accept any distinction. And among the human rights, it may be the most “human” of them all for its intrinsic nature.
